The Artist

Snowdon (Antony Armstrong-Jones) was influential in bringing an informal approach to royal portraiture and is celebrated for his pioneering photo essays during nearly thirty years at The Sunday Times Magazine, documenting the arts and social issues. His most famous work as a photographer was his series of portraits of the royal family, including his iconic photograph of Princess Margaret, which is now part of the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection. He also photographed a number of other famous figures, including David Bowie, Elizabeth Taylor, and Laurence Olivier.
